What is the Mode, Language, and Negative Marking of CAIIB Exam?

• The CAIIB exam takes place online, where you’ll answer objective-type questions (MCQs) and numerical questions by typing in your answers.
• You won’t lose marks for incorrect answers, as there is no negative marking.
• You can choose to take the exam in Hindi or English.
• Each paper occurs on a separate date, and you have 2 hours to complete each paper.
• You need to score at least 50 marks out of 100 to meet the cut-off for each paper.

How Many Papers Can You Appear for in One Cycle?

You can appear for any number of papers in a single cycle: Paper 1, 2, 3, 4, or all 5. There is no mandatory minimum.

Most candidates spread papers across cycles depending on preparation level. You can:

• Appear for only ABM in one cycle
• Skip a cycle entirely
• Attempt all 5 papers in one go if prepared

Skipping a paper doesn’t forfeit your registration. But remember, registering for a cycle counts as one attempt, whether or not you appear.

What is the CAIIB Question Pattern?

The question paper contains 100 objective-type multiple-choice questions for 100 marks, including questions based on case studies.

There may be some numerical questions in some CAIIB subjects where no options will be provided. These questions are not in the MCQ pattern. The answer has to be keyed in by the candidate.

• Standard MCQs: 4 options, pick 1.
• Case Study questions: A short scenario followed by related MCQs.
• Numerical questions with no options: You type the answer directly.

The mix varies by paper. BFM and ABFM have more numerical questions. BRBL is mostly conceptual MCQs.

Case Study Questions

Case studies appear in multiple papers, especially ABM and BRBL. A short situation is described, and 2-3 questions follow based on it. These test application of concepts, not just recall.

Numerical Questions

Some papers, especially BFM and ABFM, include calculations where you type your answer directly rather than choosing from options.

This is harder than MCQs because there’s no process of elimination. You have to arrive at the correct answer independently.

What is the CAIIB Passing Criteria?

You need to score a minimum of 50 marks out of 100 to pass each subject.

Candidates who secure at least 45 marks in each subject, with an aggregate of 50% across all subjects in a single attempt, will be declared as having completed the examination.

So two routes to pass:

Route 1: Score 50 or more in each paper individually.

Route 2 (Aggregate Rule): Score at least 45 in every paper and maintain 50% aggregate (250/500) across all papers in a single attempt.

If you score below 45 in any paper, Route 2 doesn’t apply. That paper is a fail regardless of aggregate.

Carry Forward of Passed Papers

Papers you clear are credited to your account. In the next attempt, you only register for the papers you haven’t cleared yet.

Credits remain valid until you exhaust 5 attempts or 3 years from first registration, whichever comes first.

CAIIB Class of Pass 2026: First Class & Distinction Requirements

Here is the class of pass criteria for the CAIIB exam:

First Class: Eligibility and Cut-Off Marks

To be awarded a First Class, you need to meet the following requirements:

• Secure an aggregate score of 60% or higher across all subjects.
• Pass all subjects in your FIRST PHYSICAL ATTEMPT.

First Class with Distinction

This is the highest distinction awarded on the CAIIB exam. To achieve it, you must:

• Earn an aggregate score of 70% or higher.
• Score at least 60% in each individual subject.
• Pass all subjects in your  FIRST PHYSICAL ATTEMPT.

CAIIB Examination Schedule: How are CAIIB Exam Papers Scheduled?

Each of the 5 papers is held on a separate date. You do not appear for multiple papers on the same day.

Here is the actual June 2026 CAIIB cycle schedule as an example:

Are Any Papers on the Same Day?

No paper is scheduled on the same calendar day as another in the standard IIBF schedule.

Notice above: ABFM and BRBL are on consecutive days (13th and 14th), but not the same day.

Gap Between Papers

The gap between papers is not fixed. It varies by cycle and by which papers are next to each other in the schedule.

From the June 2026 example:

• ABM to BFM: 7 days
• BFM to ABFM: 6 days
• ABFM to BRBL: 1 day
• BRBL to Elective: 7 days

Plan your revision schedule around this. Some gaps give you a full week. Others give you barely a day.

Exam Cycles

CAIIB is conducted twice a year: May-June cycle and November-December cycle.

The Institute conducts examinations on half yearly basis; the periodicity of the examination may be changed depending upon the requirements of the banking industry.

What is the CAIIB Exam Day Rules?

There are certain CAIIB exam day rules that you must know:

Calculator Policy

A valid calculator is permitted, specifically a battery-operated, portable calculator with up to 8 functions and 12 digits, as per IIBF norms. Scientific calculators are not allowed.

This applies to papers that involve numerical calculations, primarily BFM and ABFM. Always check the admit card instructions specific to your paper.

Documents to Carry

• Printed CAIIB admit card (A4 size, clear printout)
• Original valid photo ID (Aadhaar, PAN, Passport, Voter ID, or Driving License)

Do not carry mobile phones, smart watches, bags, or notes inside the exam hall.

Reporting Time

Candidates are expected to report at the exam centre at least 30 minutes before the scheduled start time.

Entry is typically not permitted after the exam has begun.

Rough Sheets

Rough sheets or scratch paper are typically provided at the exam centre for calculations. You do not need to bring your own.

Biometric Verification

Biometric verification may be conducted at the exam centre. This typically involves fingerprint scanning or photograph matching at entry and sometimes mid-exam as well.

Has There Been a Change in CAIIB Exam Pattern?

The most significant pattern change happened in June 2023. Before 2023, CAIIB had 3 papers. The revised structure introduced:

• 4 compulsory papers + 1 Elective instead of 2 Compulsory + 1 Elective papers.
• Two new papers: ABFM and BRBL.
• Attempt limit changed from 4 attempts/2 years to 5 attempts/3 years.

The basic structure: 100 questions, 100 marks, 2 hours, no negative marking, have not changed.

Can the CAIIB Exam Pattern Change in Next Cycle?

Nothing announced for the immediate future. The 2023 restructure is still in effect for all 2026 exams.

IIBF doesn’t revise the pattern on a fixed schedule. Any future change would come with advance notice on IIBF website.
