The eligibility is determined as on the closing date of application. Whatever your age and qualification status is on that date, that is what counts.
What is the IB ACIO Age Limit 2026?
The IB ACIO age limit for General/UR candidates is 18 to 27 years.
Age is calculated as on the closing date of the application.
For 2025, the closing date was August 10, 2025. The 2026 closing date is expected in November 2026.
No cumulative relaxation. If you qualify under more than one category, you can use only one relaxation. Pick whichever benefits you more.
What is the IB ACIO Age Relaxation 2026?
Age relaxation for IB ACIO exams is available to reserved and special categories.
But each category has conditions attached.
OBC Candidates
- Must produce an OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) certificate.
- Certificate must be from the Central Government OBC list, not the State Government list.
- Creamy Layer candidates are not eligible for OBC age relaxation.
SC/ST Candidates
- Must produce a valid SC/ST caste certificate from a competent government authority (DM, ADM, DC, SDM, Executive Magistrate, etc.).
Departmental Candidates
- Only Central Government civilian employees qualify.
- Must have rendered at least 3 years of regular and continuous service.
- PSU employees, Autonomous Body employees, and Statutory Body employees do not get this relaxation, even if they work under the government.
Ex-Servicemen
- Age relaxation is as per the Government of India rules in force at the time.
- ESMs who have already used their ESM quota to secure a Group C central government post cannot claim reservation benefits again. But they can still claim age relaxation.
Widows / Divorced Women / Judicially Separated Women
- Must not be remarried.
- Must produce a Widow certificate, Divorce decree, or court order, as applicable.
Meritorious Sportspersons
- Up to 5 years relaxation.
- Certificate must be in the prescribed format from the National Federation, State Association, or University (as applicable).
- The specific certificate format is given in the appendices of the official IB ACIO notification.
Important: Whatever relaxation you claim at the time of application, carry the original certificate to the interview for verification. Candidates who cannot produce it will be disqualified.
What is the Age Limit for Female Candidates in IB ACIO?
The age limit for female candidates is the same as male candidates: 18 to 27 years for General/UR category.
IB ACIO does not have a separate age relaxation for women purely on the basis of gender.
However, there is a specific relaxation for a particular group of women:
- Widows, divorced women, and women judicially separated from their husbands (and not remarried) get extended age limits.
- UR category: up to 35 years.
- OBC category: up to 38 years.
- SC/ST category: up to 40 years.
Other than this, all standard category relaxations (OBC: 3 years, SC/ST: 5 years) apply equally to female candidates. There is no general “women’s quota” for age in IB ACIO.
What is the IB ACIO Educational Qualification 2026?
The mandatory IB ACIO educational requirement is Graduation or equivalent from a recognized university.
Knowledge of computers is desirable, not mandatory.
IB ACIO puts no requirement on:
- Any minimum percentage requirement
- Any specific stream or subject
- Any minimum marks cutoff
A pass in graduation is enough. B.A., B.Com., B.Sc., B.Tech., BCA, and B.Ed. are all eligible. The stream does not matter.
Note: Your degree result must be formally declared on or before the closing date. If your result is still pending, you are not eligible.
What Counts as a “Recognized University”?
Your university must be recognized by one of the following statutory bodies:
- UGC (University Grants Commission). For general degrees.
- AICTE. For technical and engineering degrees.
If your university is on the UGC fake university list, your degree is not valid for this exam. Check the UGC Website before applying.
Are Professional Degrees Accepted?
Degrees like CA, CS, ICWAI/ICMAI, and PGDM are recognized as equivalent to graduation or post-graduation by the Government of India.
These are valid for IB ACIO eligibility.
What is Considered as the Proof of Your Date of birth?
Your name and date of birth will be taken only from your Class 10 (Matriculation) certificate. No other document is accepted for this.
Can a Final Year Student Apply for IB ACIO?
No. Your graduation result must be declared on or before the closing date of the application.
If you are in your final year and your result is not yet out, you cannot apply.
Can Distance Education Graduates Apply for IB ACIO?
Yes, with one condition: your university must be UGC-recognized.
A distance education degree from a UGC-approved university is valid for IB ACIO. If your university is not UGC-recognized, the degree is not accepted.
The UGC website has a searchable list of approved universities and a separate list of fake universities. Check that.
What is the IB ACIO Nationality Requirement?
Only Indian citizens are eligible.
Unlike RBI Grade B or NABARD Grade A, which allow candidates from Nepal, Bhutan, Tibetan refugees, and Persons of Indian Origin from specific countries, IB ACIO has no such provisions. Indian citizens only.
This is because IB is an intelligence agency under national security operations. OCI (Overseas Citizen of India) cardholders are also not eligible.
What is the Accepted Proof of Nationality?
No separate nationality certificate is required at the application stage. But you must carry valid photo ID (Voter Card, Aadhaar, Driving License, PAN Card, or college-issued identity card) to the exam centre.
Original documents will be required at the Interview stage.
How Many Attempts are Allowed for IB ACIO Exam?
There is no limit on the number of attempts.
IB ACIO puts no cap on attempts for any category. As long as you meet the age limit and educational qualification on the closing date, you can apply every cycle.
What Counts as an IB ACIO Attempt?
Applying and appearing for IB ACIO Tier 1 constitutes an attempt.
Filling the form but not appearing will not be counted.
IB does not track attempts officially, so this is less of a concern in practice. The real constraint is age, not attempts.
What is the IB ACIO Physical Eligibility?
Two things to be clear about here.
1. There is no separate physical fitness test in IB ACIO selection
Unlike defence or police exams, IB ACIO has no running test, height check at the application stage, or chest measurement as part of the written selection process.
2. There is a Medical Examination after the Interview
Final selection is subject to a Medical Examination conducted by IB/MHA. The following is generally checked:
- Eyesight: Distant vision of 6/6 in one eye and 6/9 in the other, with or without corrective lenses.
- General Physical Health: Free from chronic diseases or conditions that affect duty performance.
- No colour blindness or night blindness.
- No musculoskeletal conditions affecting field duties (e.g., knee joint problems).

3. Character and Antecedent Verification also happens at this stage
A background check is conducted by the agency. Any adverse criminal history or misrepresentation in the application can lead to disqualification even after clearing all three tiers.
