IBPS PO Educational Qualification
The IBPS PO Educational Qualification requirement is simple, but it must meet the exact verification rules mentioned below:
- A Degree (Graduation) in any discipline from a University recognised by the Government of India
- Any equivalent qualification recognised by the Central Government.
- You must have a valid mark-sheet / degree certificate showing you are a graduate on the day of registration.
- The final result of graduation must be declared on or before the last date of registration.
- At the interview, you must submit proper proof that the result was declared on or before :
- Mark-sheet or provisional certificate with the date of passing, or
- If the result is only on the university website, then an original certificate signed by a competent authority, clearly mentioning the date of passing.
IBPS PO Eligibility: Graduation Percentage Rules
There is no minimum percentage requirement to attempt the IBPS PO exam.
- If marks are given in CGPA / OGPA, you must convert CGPA/OGPA to a percentage as per the university’s own conversion rules.
- At the interview, produce a certificate from the university stating:
- The conversion formula/norms used, and
- The exact percentage as per those norms.
- How the percentage is calculated:
- Total marks obtained in all subjects of all semesters/years
- Divided by the aggregate maximum marks of all subjects and multiplied by 100.
- Fractions are ignored for eligibility:
- 59.99% is treated as less than 60%.
Is a Distance-Learning Degree Valid for IBPS PO Eligibility?
Yes. A distance-learning degree is fully valid for IBPS PO eligibility as long as the university is recognised by the Government of India.
IBPS does not differentiate between:
• Regular degrees
• Distance-learning degrees
• Open university degrees (IGNOU, state open universities)
If the degree is valid under Indian law, IBPS accepts it.
What Does the Bank Check During Verification?
The bank checks only two things:
• Your degree must be from a recognised university
• Your graduation must be completed before the cut-off date
There is no preference for regular classroom degrees. So, IGNOU or any other state open university degrees are acceptable for IBPS PO.

IBPS PO Eligibility: Attempt Limit
No. There is no attempt limit in the IBPS PO exam. As long as you fall within the age window, you can reattempt as many times as you wish. Here is what you must note:
• Every attempt is treated as a fresh application
• Interview panels do not check your past attempts
• Final merit depends only on Mains + Interview score
• Multiple attempts have no negative effect on selection
If you meet the age criteria, you can attempt IBPS PO every year without restriction.

Will a Low CIBIL Score Affect IBPS PO Eligibility or Joining?
A low CIBIL score does not affect your IBPS PO eligibility. You can apply, write Prelims, attempt Mains, and appear for the Interview without any restriction.
But the credit check happens at the time of joining, not during the exam process.
Banks check your CIBIL report for:
- Past defaults
- Settled or written-off loans
- High overdue amounts
- Fraud or wilful default flags
If the bank finds a serious issue, they may:
- Delay your joining
- Ask for NOCs from lenders (banks, NBFCs, etc.)
- In rare cases, your offer can be withdrawn.
Candidates with no credit history face no issue. So, you are eligible for IBPS PO, but joining depends on your updated credit status.
