IIFCL Assistant Manager Interview Syllabus 2026
Candidates who clear Phase 1 are called for a Technical and Behavioural Interview at IIFCL’s New Delhi office.
The interview carries 100 marks and has a 60% weightage in the final selection. This means even if you score well in the written exam, a weak interview can cost you the seat.
You can choose to appear in Hindi or English.
The interview broadly covers two areas:
Technical Interview
This tests your domain knowledge and professional background. Expect questions on:
- Your work experience: What you did, what projects you handled, what challenges you faced?
- Infrastructure finance basics: Project finance, DSCR, PPP models, green-field vs brown-field
- Banking and financial sector knowledge: NPA, ALM, RBI/SEBI guidelines
- IIFCL’s role: Mandate, recent projects, and annual report highlights
- Current economic developments: Budget, monetary policy, key government schemes
- Your chosen stream:
- Generalist: Expect broad finance questions.
- Environment and Social Safeguard: You may face questions on the environmental impact assessment
Behavioural Interview
This tests your personality, attitude, and suitability for the role. Expect questions on:
- Why do you want to join IIFCL specifically?
- Career goals and long-term plans
- Strengths and weaknesses
- Situational questions: How did you handle difficult situations at work?
- Leadership and teamwork examples
- Willingness to be posted anywhere in India
Tips for the Interview
- Read the IIFCL annual report before the interview. Interviewers expect you to know the organisation.
- Be specific about your work experience. Generic answers will not work here.
- Stay updated on the latest RBI and SEBI circulars right up to the interview date.
- Be honest about what you know and what you do not. Bluffing in a technical interview won’t work.

How to Cover the IIFCL Assistant Manager Syllabus?
The IIFCL Assistant Manager exam is not something you can crack with generic banking exam preparation. Test 2 alone carries half the marks.
Here is a realistic, section-wise plan.
Test 1: General Aptitude
Reasoning
- Puzzles and seating arrangements will dominate. Spend the first 2 weeks only on these two topics.
- Practice at least 3-4 puzzles daily. Speed matters here more than concept.
- Syllogism, coding-decoding, and inequality are easy marks. Do not skip them.
Quantitative Aptitude
- Start with DI. Most questions in banking exams come from tables, bar graphs, and caselets.
- Arithmetic topics like percentage, profit-loss, and time-speed-distance are scoring, but only if your calculation speed is good. Practice mental math daily.
- Number series and simplification are quickly solvable. 10 minutes of daily practice is enough.
English
- Reading Comprehension passages in IIFCL exams are finance-based. Start reading one article from the Business Standard or the Economic Times daily. This helps both English and Current Affairs.
- For para jumbles and error spotting, daily practice is necessary. 15 minutes every day is enough.
- For vocabulary, make a list of 10 new words daily from financial news.
Current Affairs (Financial Sector)
- This is not general current affairs. Do not waste time on sports, politics, or entertainment news.
- Follow RBI website for MPC decisions, circulars, and press releases.
- Read SEBI updates once a week.
- Make short notes on key topics — Budget highlights, NPA data, new banking regulations. Revise these notes weekly.
- Read the IIFCL annual report at least once. Questions about IIFCL’s own work have appeared in similar exams.
Test 2: Domain Knowledge
Give Domain Knowledge section at least 60% of your total preparation time.
Project Finance
- Start with the basics
- What is project finance?
- How does it differ from corporate finance?
- What does DSCR mean?
- Understand PPP models: BOT, BOOT, HAM. These come up frequently.
- Read about IIFCL’s mandate and the Harmonised Master List of Infrastructure Sub-sectors.
Risk Management
- Focus on NPA classification: Substandard, doubtful, loss assets.
- Understand credit risk, market risk, and operational risk separately.
- Read RBI’s latest circular on NPA resolution and the IBC framework.
Corporate Banking and Treasury
- Understand the difference between fund-based and non-fund-based credit.
- Read about ALM, forex basics, and how treasury operations work in banks and FIs.
Accounting and Taxation
- Know the basics of financial statements: Balance Sheet, P&L, Cash Flow.
- Understand Ind AS at a high level. You do not need CA-level depth.
- GST basics and corporate tax structure are important.
Indian Economy and Banking System
- GDP, inflation, and monetary policy. These are standard topics. One good economics book is enough.
- Know the role of each financial institution: RBI, NABARD, SIDBI, NHB, IIFCL, EXIM Bank.
- Basel norms: Understand the difference between Basel II and Basel III.
RBI/SEBI Circulars
- Follow the RBI and SEBI websites weekly.
- Make a short document of important circulars, policy changes, and key data points.
- Read the RBI Annual Report and the IIFCL Annual Report cover to cover at least once.
Interview Preparation
- Start interview prep at least 4 weeks before the exam. Not after the result.
- Write down your work experience in detail. Be ready to answer specific questions about every role you have held.
- Prepare a 2-minute answer for “Tell me about yourself”. Keep it professional and relevant to finance.
- Practice answer to “Why IIFCL?” Make it specific. Generic answers like “government job stability” will not impress the panel.
- Read about IIFCL’s recent projects, funding activities, and key initiatives before the interview.
General Tips
- Attempt at least 15 full-length mock tests before the exam. Do not start mocks too early. Build your base first.
- After every mock, spend more time on analysis than the test itself. Track which topics are costing you marks.
- Do not try to cover everything. Domain Knowledge is vast. Prioritise Project Finance, Risk Management, and Banking System. These are the highest weightage areas.
- Revise your short notes every weekend.
- Keep your phone away during study hours. IIFCL prep needs focused, distraction-free sessions.
The IIFCL Assistant Manager Syllabus is in front of you. Hopefully, you also know how to start with the preparation. The only thing left is to start.
All the Best.
