What Type of Questions Were Asked in the IRDAI Grade A 2024 Paper?

IRDAI Grade A Phase 1
Here’s our analysis of questions that were asked in IRDAI Grade A Phase 1 2024:
1. The IRDAI Grade A Phase 1 examination comprised four sections: Quantitative Aptitude, Reasoning Ability, English Language, and General Awareness.
2. The overall difficulty level of the 2024 IRDAI Grade A Phase 1 exam was easy to moderate. All the sections were comparatively easy, except for General Awareness, which was on the moderate side.
3. Out of 160 questions that are asked in IRDAI Grade A Phase 1, the number of attempts that were considered good was between 105-115 questions.
Quantitative Aptitude
The difficulty level of the quant (QA) section in IRDAI Grade A was moderate, with only 3 questions that could be said to be difficult.
Data Interpretation and Arithmetic questions dominated the QA section, similar to the IRDAI Grade A 2023 Phase 1 exam.
1. Data Interpretation (DI): There were 3 sets of DI, having 16 questions in total. All 3 sets were time-consuming and calculation-intensive, but not too complicated.
These DI sets were based on bar graph, tables, and caselets, respectively. We have given one of the three sets as an example below.
Question: The given bar graph shows the number of tennis rackets sold and the number of badminton rackets sold by five different sellers, namely A, B, C, D, and E, respectively.
Note:
The total number of rackets sold by each seller = The number of tennis rackets sold + The number of badminton rackets sold.
This DI problem was followed by 5 questions, such as the total no. of rackets sold, revenue generated, the difference between unsold and sold rackets by a certain seller, etc.
2. Arithmetic Problems: A total of 12 questions were based on Arithmetic topics such as Time & Work, Average, Ages, Mixture & Alligation, Time & Distance, etc.
For a candidate who had practiced a lot of mocks, tackling arithmetic questions was easy. Here is an example.
Question: A car covers the first 40% of the distance at a speed of 24 kmph and covers the remaining distance at a speed of 72 kmph. If the total distance is 480 km, then find the average speed of the car to cover the total distance.
Reasoning
The difficulty level of the reasoning section in IRDAI Grade A was moderate, with 3 difficult questions.
The reasoning section was completely dominated by Puzzles and critical reasoning.
1. Puzzles: There were 5 puzzle sets, having 23 questions in total, which means more than 50% questions in the Reasoning section.
They were time-consuming, but the logic behind each of the puzzles was not too hard to figure out. Below is an example of one of the puzzle set based on seating arrangement.
Question: Eight friends Diksha, Diya, Saloni, Tina, Sachin, Arti, Himanshu, and Jatin are sitting around a circular table in a seminar. Some of them are facing outside the center while some are facing towards the center, but not necessarily in the same order.
Note: Not more than two friends who sit immediately next to each other are facing the same direction.
Arti sits opposite to the one who sits third to the left of Diya. Diksha sits third to the right of the one who sits second to the left of Arti. Diksha does not sit opposite to Diya. Diksha faces the same direction as Saloni. Himanshu faces the same direction as Tina, who does not face outside the center. Sachin is an immediate neighbor of neither Diksha nor Diya. Two friends sit between Tina and Himanshu, who sits to the immediate left of Saloni. Sachin sits opposite to Jatin, who faces the same direction as Arti.
This puzzle was followed by 5 questions asking about the seating position of friends, odd one out, etc.
2. Critical Reasoning: There were 4 questions based on critical reasoning. These could have been easily attempted with decent practice. Here’s one of the questions as an example:
Question: For many years, eating meat daily was a staple in the diets of people around the world, often seen as a symbol of strength and nourishment. It was common to find meat featured in almost every meal, from breakfast to dinner. Recently, however, many people are turning to plant-based diets.
What could be the reason behind this recent turning to plant-based diets?
I. This is driven by concerns about health, the environment, and animal welfare.
II. People are now changing their perspectives on food choices and their broader impact.
III. The rise in plant-based diets has also coincided with an increase in urban gardening and homegrown produce.
English Language
The difficulty level of the English section in IRDAI Grade A was easy to moderate, with no difficult questions.
The majority of the questions were on Reading Comprehension and Cloze Test
1. Reading Comprehension (RC): There were 2 RCs based on UNESCO’s State of Education Report for India and Globalization, both having 14 questions in total.
2. Cloze Test: There were 9 questions where you needed to fill in the blanks given. These were easy if you had a good hold on basic vocabulary. Below is an example of one of the questions asked from Cloze test.

General Awareness
The difficulty level of General Awareness (GA) section was moderate. Majority of the questions were from the past 3 to 5 months.
The majority of the questions were based on General Awareness and Finance static knowledge.
1. General Awareness: General awareness questions (24) dominated the GA section, which covered national and international events, government schemes, appointments, summits, awards, and rankings. We have mentioned some of the questions as examples below:
Question 1: Which organization is responsible for granting the ‘Ecomark’ certification to environment-friendly products in India?
Question 2: Ikea, which recently introduced a 365-day exchange and return policy for its consumers in India, was originally founded in which country in 1943?
Question 3: By which year does India’s National Logistics Policy (NLP) aim to reduce logistics costs in India at par with other developed countries?
2. Finance Static: There were 9 questions in IRDAI Grade A Phase 1 2024 based on Finance Static knowledge. Here are the examples of some of those questions:
Question 1: Which of the following is not a function of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) as per the RBI Act 1934?
Question 2: What is India’s global ranking in terms of the size of its startup ecosystem, with over 1,12,718 DPIIT-recognized startups across 763 districts?
IRDAI Grade A Phase 2
The overall difficulty of the IRDAI Grade A Phase 2 paper was moderate to tough.
Here’s our analysis of questions that were asked in IRDAI Grade A Phase 2 2024:
1. The IRDAI Grade A Phase 1 examination comprised three sections: Descriptive English, ESI Impacting Insurance and Insurance & Management.
2. As per our recollection of the Descriptive English section, there were 3 topics on the essay, out of which one had to be attempted. Similarly, there were 2 topics in letter writing, out of which one was to be attempted. Also, there was a reading comprehension passage, a précis writing, and 2 statement expansion questions, out of which one was to be attempted.
3. Economic and Social Issues Impacting Insurance was divided into 2 parts. Part 1 had 5 questions, and 3 were to be attempted. Part 2 had 5 questions. 4 were to be attempted.
4. The Insurance and Management paper was divided into 2 parts. Part 1 i.e., Insurance had 6 questions, out of which four were to be attempted. The Management section had 4 questions. 2 of the 4 questions were given with multiple sub-questions, out of which one was to be attempted.
Descriptive English
The difficulty level of Descriptive English in IRDAI Grade A Phase 2 was moderate.

1. Essay Writing: 3 Essay topics were given. You had to choose one and write on that topic in about 500 words. Here are the 3 topics:
A. Strategies for Insurance for all by 2047 in India.
B. Pros and Cons of Artificial Intelligence.
C. The power of positive thinking.
2. Precis Writing: A 400-word passage was given based on the theme ‘Data Analytics in the Insurance Sector’ You needed to summarise the passage in 100 words.
3. Letter Writing: There were 2 topics on letter writing. You had to choose one and write the letter on it in 150 words. Below are the list of topics for letter writing:
A. Write a letter in 150 words to the commissioner regarding dog menace in your society.
B. Write a letter in 150 words to your nephew regarding the rampant spread of fake news on social media.
ESI Impacting Insurance
A mix of both static and analytical questions was asked based on static and current affairs knowledge. The overall difficulty level of ESI impacting Insurance was moderate to tough.

Unlike the detailed Phase 2 syllabus, IRDAI doesn’t release the Phase 1 syllabus in the official notification.
