Who is Aditya? A Little About His Journey
Aditya is an engineer. He studied Chemical Engineering from BITS Pilani. After college, he worked at ICICI Bank. But deep in his heart, he wanted to work for our country. He wanted to be in public service.
So, he started preparing for the UPSC exam first. After trying for some time, he also found out about the RBI exam. He thought this was a great way to serve the country in the world of finance and the economy.
Now, starting a new journey is never easy. Aditya also faced some big worries right at the beginning.
The First Hurdle in His RBI Grade B Journey
When Aditya looked at the RBI exam syllabus, he got a little scared. Especially one subject: Management. He was an engineer, and he had never studied it before. The books looked so big and the topics so many!
“I was afraid of management because I had never studied management… it was very vast and I was a little bit afraid that I would not be able to remember all the stuff.”
He also felt sad when his UPSC exam didn’t go as well as he had hoped. At that moment, it’s very easy to think, “Should I just give up and go back to my job?” It’s a thought that comes to many of us when things get tough. He felt that maybe he should just stop and not waste any more time.
But this is where Aditya made a choice that changed everything for him.

The Mindset Shift That Helped Him Prepare for RBI Grade B
Instead of just worrying, Aditya made a very smart plan. He told himself that he would give himself a 3-year deadline. He gave himself time. He didn’t pressure himself to succeed overnight. This helped him stay calm.
His biggest mindset change was this: he stopped thinking about competing with lakhs of other students. Instead, he started competing with himself.
He thought, “RBI Grade B has a cut-off. If I score above it, I will pass. It doesn’t matter what others are doing.”
“You are competing against yourself.”
This simple thought took away all the fear of missing out (FOMO). He didn’t have to do what everyone else was doing. He just had to be good enough to clear the cut-off. Isn’t that a much calmer way to prepare?
This thinking helped him make a very clever plan for his studies.
Let’s see how this new mindset helped him prepare for RBI Grade B Phase 1 all by himself.

The RBI Grade B Phase 1 Preparation Through Self-Study
He knew his strong subjects were Quant, Reasoning, and English (QRE). He was an engineer, so he was good with numbers. So, he decided that he would score very high in QRE.
For the General Awareness (GA) section, which is very big, he made a very different plan. Instead of trying to study everything, he decided to focus only on clearing the sectional cut-off.
Here is his simple GA strategy:
- Find Your Strengths: He knew he was good at remembering Government Schemes because of his UPSC preparation. So, he focused on that.
- Don’t Fear Your Weakness: He felt RBI Notifications were tough for him. So, he didn’t spend too much time on them. It’s okay to not know everything!
- Simple Sources: He did not read big newspapers or PIB. Instead, he watched free videos on EduTap’s YouTube channel for schemes, reports, and finance current affairs.
- Smart Note-Making: For every video, he made notes on just one A4 sheet of paper. This stopped him from making bulky notes.
He trusted his plan. He knew if he did well in QRE, he would clear Phase 1. And he did!
Now that Phase 1 was done, it was time for the next big step: RBI Grade B Phase 2.

How Did He Tackle RBI Grade B Phase 2 Preparation
The moment RBI Grade B Phase 1 was over, Aditya started studying for Management. He gave half of his day just to this one subject because he knew it was his weakest area.
For Finance, he already knew some basics, so he just brushed them up and learned the new topics. For ESI, he revised his notes from Phase 1.
But here is his secret for RBI Grade B Phase 2 Management:
- He created templates. For a topic like ‘Leadership,’ he prepared one standard introduction and one standard conclusion. He would use these in any question on that topic.
- He focused on understanding, not just memorising. This helped him write answers on the spot in the exam hall, even for questions that looked new.
- He practiced typing. A very simple but important step! He would just open Notepad and type essays to get used to the keyboard.
This shows us that you don’t always need more time; you just need a better plan.
What You Can Learn from Aditya’s RBI Grade B Phase 1 & 2 Plan
- Know your strong and weak areas. Play on your strengths.
- You don’t need to study everything. It’s okay to be selective.
- Use free resources like YouTube videos wisely.
- Make short, simple notes. Don’t just copy everything.
- Start working on your weak areas immediately. Don’t wait.
- Create smart templates for answers to save time.
- Practice the small things, like typing. They make a big difference.
- Focus on using the knowledge you have, not on gathering more and more information.
So, he was prepared. But how did he feel inside the exam hall and the interview room? Let’s find out.

RBI Grade B Exam and the Interview Experience
This is where calmness and confidence become your biggest superpowers.
In the Exam Hall
Some questions came that Aditya had no idea about. For example, a question on ‘AT1 bonds’.
Did he panic?
No. He simply skipped it. He knew he couldn’t answer everything. He focused on the questions he could answer well.
“Be ready to skip the questions.”
You don’t have to be a hero and attempt every question.
In the Interview Room
Aditya was very scared of the RBI Grade B interview. He felt he was not naturally good at it. So what did he do? He practiced. A lot. He gave five mock interviews!
In his final RBI interview, the very first 3 questions were from his engineering subject, and he couldn’t answer them! Imagine how scary that must feel. He said,
“I have no idea, sir, I don’t know. I don’t know. I don’t know.”
But because he had practiced so much, he did not panic. He stayed calm, and the interviewers moved on to other topics. He then answered the other questions very well. He even gave his own opinion on a topic, but he backed it up with data. This showed his confidence.
His journey shows that practice doesn’t just give you knowledge, it gives you calmness in difficult situations.
But no journey is ever completed alone. Aditya also had a wonderful support system.

His Support System During RBI Grade B Preparation
Aditya’s parents were his biggest strength. When he was feeling low after his UPSC attempt, they stood by him. They never pressured him. They told him to give his best and not worry.
“My parents were very supportive…they believed in me.”
For his studies, especially for RBI Grade B Phase 1, he found guidance in the free videos from EduTap. This shows that good mentorship can come from anywhere, from your family, your teachers, or even from helpful online videos.
Always remember to thank the people who support you on your journey.

Aditya’s Final Message for You
He says that the RBI Grade B exam is for everyone. It doesn’t matter if you are from Arts, Commerce, or Science. You just need to remember these things:
- Understand the Exam: First, look at the syllabus and the old question papers (PYQs). Understand what the exam really wants from you.
- You Can Clear This Exam: “You all can clear this exam,” he says with a lot of belief. Never let your background make you feel small.
- UPSC is not an Advantage: Many feel that UPSC students have a better chance. Aditya says no. A good personality and a good knowledge base are what matter, and you can build that from any background.
- Believe in Yourself: More than anything else, have confidence. There will be tough days, but your belief in yourself will carry you through.
Aditya’s story is not about being a genius. It’s a story about being smart, calm, and brave. It’s about understanding yourself and making a plan that works for you.
So, whenever you feel scared or lost, remember Aditya. Remember his simple plan, his calm mind, and his belief that you are only competing against yourself.
We wish you all the very best on your beautiful journey! You can do it.
