When One Dream Felt Far Away

Aravind, who studied at IIT, had a big dream: to clear the UPSC Civil Services exam. He worked day and night. He even reached the interview round. He was so close! But when the final result came, his name wasn’t there. He felt completely lost and heartbroken.

“The final results didn’t bring the outcome I had hoped for, leaving me quite devastated.”

Sometimes, when we feel so down, we don’t feel like trying again right away. Aravind felt that too. The next UPSC exam was just three days away, but he decided not to give it. His heart was just not in it.

He was feeling very low. But a small phone call was about to change everything.

A New Chance: The RBI Grade B Exam

Aravind’s friend called him. His friend was preparing for the RBI Grade B exam and told him that the last date to apply was still open. Aravind thought about it. Here was a new door opening. But there was a big problem. There were only 40 days left for the Phase 1 exam and just 20 more days for Phase 2 after that. That is so little time!

Most people would think, “No, this is not possible.” Did Aravind feel that fear? Of course, he did! But instead of letting the fear stop him, he decided to try. He filled the form.

But things were about to get really smart from here.

Aravind’s Smart Plan: Don’t Start from Zero!

Aravind knew he had very little time. He couldn’t study everything from the beginning. So, he sat down and thought, “What do I already know?” Because of his UPSC preparation, he had already studied subjects like Economics, Social Issues, and Finance. This was his superpower!

The only new subject for him was Management. So, he made a clever plan. He decided to focus all his energy on what was new and just revise what he already knew. This is a great lesson for all of us: always see what you already have, instead of worrying about what you don’t.

Now, let’s see how he used this smart plan for the first big test, Phase 1.

How He Prepared for Phase 1 in Just 40 Days

Aravind divided his time very carefully. Here is what he did for each subject:

  • For Current Affairs: He didn’t try to memorize everything. He just wanted to be familiar with the news. He read PDFs from Affairs Cloud and used EduTap’s magazines for Schemes and RBI News. He also watched EduTap’s YouTube videos at 2x speed to save time!
  • For Quantitative Aptitude (Maths): He knew practice was key. He gave 10 mock tests from Oliveboard. For topics he found tricky, he watched EduTap’s live problem-solving videos. He learned that choosing the right questions in the exam is very, very important.
  • For Reasoning: Puzzles can be tricky. Aravind practiced a lot from test series. He watched how teachers at EduTap solved puzzles and learned some of their simple methods. Learn which puzzle to solve and which one to skip.
  • For English: Aravind was comfortable with English, so he just practiced with mock tests. His one special tip: Before starting the English section in the exam, he would pause for 30 seconds, take a deep breath, and calm his mind. This helped him read the passage carefully in one go.

So he prepared his best. But exam day often brings its own little surprises.

The Exam Day and a Little Problem

Aravind went for his Phase 1 exam. He heard from other students that the paper was tough, so he was mentally prepared. But something frustrating happened. In the middle of the exam, the mouse of his computer stopped working! Because of this, he couldn’t even read 13 questions in the General Awareness section.

But he didn’t panic. He did his best in the other sections. And guess what? He still cleared Phase 1! This teaches us that even if something goes wrong, you should keep calm and focus on what you can still do.

But the next challenge was even bigger. Phase 2 was just 20 days away!

Next Challenge: Phase 2 in Just 20 Days!

With only 20 days, Aravind had to be extra smart. For the main subjects, he focused on revision and answer writing.

  • For Finance and Management: He quickly revised Management notes from EduTap. For Finance, he used EduTap’s PDFs to clear his basics. He also read the RBI’s annual report and noticed they talked a lot about “climate change.” So, he prepared some good points, quotes, and data on this topic.
  • For Economics and Social Issues: He used his old UPSC notes! He collected important data and quotes from the Economic Survey and the RBI report. For social issues, he focused on important schemes for women, children, and poor people.
  • For Descriptive English: His UPSC preparation helped him here, too. For the essay, he used the quotes he had prepared on climate change. For precis and comprehension, he watched some videos to learn the rules.

One more thing he did was very important. He knew the exam would be online, so he practiced typing for 2-3 hours on a hard keyboard, just like the ones in exam centers. This is a small tip, but it makes a big difference!

He gave his best in Phase 2. Now only one last step was left: the interview.

The Final Step: Talking to the Big Officers

For the interview, Aravind read newspapers like The Hindu and Live Mint and explored the RBI website to understand how it works. His UPSC interview preparation notes were a big help again! He discussed his biodata with friends, which made him feel less nervous.

In the interview, they asked him about his UPSC journey, some finance topics, and even a fun question about cricket! Because he was well-prepared and honest, he answered calmly. He wasn’t perfect, but he was confident.

Finally, the moment he was waiting for arrived.

The Best News and Aravind’s Message for You

The final results were announced, and Aravind’s name was on the list! He had done it. He was now an RBI Grade B officer. The sadness from his UPSC result was now replaced with a new kind of happiness.

“I was not at all confident that I could pull it off, but somehow, I managed. The failure in the UPSC exam gave me the motivation to clear RBI.”

What a powerful thought! Sometimes, a closed door pushes us towards an even better open door. Aravind’s journey teaches us that it’s okay to feel sad, but it’s not okay to give up. Your past knowledge, your hard work, and your courage will always help you find a way.

So, what can you, my dear friend, learn from this beautiful journey?
