Hello, my dear friend, have you ever felt like you have a good job, but your heart wants something more? Something bigger? This is the story of a girl named Jhansi, who was already an SBI PO but had a bigger dream. She wanted to be an RBI Grade B officer.
This is not just a story about clearing an exam. It’s a story about hope, about trying again when you are very close, and about listening to your own heart. Let’s see how she did it, one step at a time.
Let’s start from the beginning to see where her journey began.

Jhansi’s Background and Family Support System
Jhansi finished her B.Tech in 2019. Like many of us, she felt that a software job was not for her. She wanted to work for the country, in the public sector. So, she started preparing for government exams and, in 2021, she became an SBI PO!
Her parents were very happy. They felt she had a good, stable job. They would lovingly tell her, “Why are you taking so much stress for another exam? You should enjoy your life now.” They were worried, just like our parents worry about us.
But Jhansi’s heart had a different plan. And sometimes, we have to follow our heart, even when it’s a little scary
But her path wasn’t simple, and she had to face some tough moments first.

Her Early Attempts and Initial Struggles in RBI Grade B
Before becoming an RBI officer, Jhansi also saw some days that were not so bright. In her 1st attempt, she missed the RBI Prelims by just 0.25 marks. Can you imagine? Just one small question.
“My interview for the SBI PO position coincided with my RBI Grade B Prelims, which I missed by 0.25 marks in 2021.”
She did not give up. She tried again the next year. This time, she cleared Prelims but missed the Mains exam by only six marks. Again, so close! It’s easy to feel sad and think about quitting at moments like these.
This is where many of us feel stuck. But for Jhansi, this was not the end. It was a new beginning.
But things were about to change for her in a big way.

The Turning Point in Her RBI Grade B Preparation
After these near misses, Jhansi sat down and had an honest chat with herself. She realized something very important. Deep down, she knew she hadn’t given her absolute best in her previous attempts. It was a powerful feeling.
“Knowing I hadn’t given my best in my previous two RBI Grade B attempts, I was determined to put in 100% effort in the 2023 attempt.”
This time, she decided, it would be different. It wasn’t just about trying again; it was about giving it everything she had. Her motivation was the RBI itself—the chance to work on a bigger canvas and make a bigger difference. This dream was stronger than any worry or any past result.
Sometimes, that one honest conversation with yourself can change everything.
Now here’s where Jhansi really showed what smart preparation looks like.

Her Smart Study Routine as a Working Professional
Jhansi knew she had less time than students who prepared full-time. So she had to be very smart. She was a morning person.
- She would go to sleep early, by 9:30 or 10 PM.
- She would wake up at 4 AM every single day.
- From 4 AM to 8:30 AM, before her bank job started, she would study with full focus. That gave her a solid 4.5 hours of quiet study time.
- On weekends and holidays, she would study for 8-10 hours to cover more topics.
She also had a friend who was a full-time aspirant. Seeing her friend complete daily targets motivated Jhansi to finish her own. It was a reminder: “If she can do it, I can do it too!”
With a clear plan, she was ready to face the exam stages one by one. Let’s see how she tackled Phase 1.

How She Strategically Cracked RBI Grade B Phase 1
This is where her smart strategy really made a difference.
Her Current Affairs Strategy for RBI Grade B Prelims
Jhansi understood that the RBI Grade B Phase 1 is very different from a Bank PO exam. She knew that General Awareness was the section where she could score the most marks. For Quant and Reasoning, her strategy was not to solve every question. Her strategy was to find the easy questions first and solve them to clear the sectional cut-off.
A big lesson came from an EduTap All India Mock Test. She scored enough to clear the overall cut-off but missed a sectional cut-off. This was a wake-up call! In the real exam, which was quite difficult, this lesson helped her focus on clearing every section’s cut-off. It’s a small thing, but it makes a huge difference.
Jhansi’s Descriptive Strategy for RBI Grade B Phase 2
With limited time, she couldn’t read everything for 6 months. So, she did something smart. She relied on EduTap’s marathon sessions. Watching videos was easier and faster for her than reading PDFs.
She would watch the videos at 2x speed the first time. For revision, she would watch them again at 3.5x or even 4x speed! This saved her a lot of time. The most important thing she did was to keep her sources limited. She trusted her chosen material and did not run after hundreds of different PDFs. This gave her confidence.
After clearing Phase 1, the next big challenge was waiting for her: the Mains exam.

How She Improved English for RBI Grade B Mains
Now, let’s look at how she prepared for the descriptive papers, which worry so many students.
The Magic of Writing Your Own Answers
For descriptive papers like ESI and FM, Jhansi did something unique. She took the syllabus, and for each topic, she framed a question herself. Then, she would type a detailed answer for it in a Word document. By the time the notification came, she had her own question-and-answer bank ready!
“I used to collect important data points that could help me write answers and note them in a Word document.”
She also kept a separate document for important data, facts, and figures from PIB and news articles. She would review this document every day. This way, she could easily add real data to her answers and make them look very good.
How She Fixed Her Biggest Weakness: English
In her 2022 attempt, Jhansi realised that her low score in English was the reason she missed the final list. It was a painful but important lesson.
“I missed the cut-off for the 2022 Mains exam by six marks, and English was the reason.”
So, this time, she gave English the respect it deserved. She started by watching EduTap’s basic videos on essay writing, precis, and comprehension. After that, she practiced writing a precis every day. She also gave 5 full-length English mock tests from EduTap. The feedback she got helped her fix her spelling mistakes and grammatical errors. This dedicated practice made all the difference.
With her mains done, it was time for the final step of her long journey.

Jhansi’s Honest and Confident RBI Grade B Interview Approach
Jhansi believed that your biodata is like the question paper you set for yourself. So, she prepared it very carefully and even showed it to her friends for feedback. She prepared all the questions related to her background, her job at SBI, and why she wanted to join RBI.
During the interview, there were 3-4 questions she did not know the answer to. Did she panic or guess? No. She simply and honestly said:
“Instead of giving wrong answers, I honestly stated, ‘I don’t know, sir, but I’ll definitely look into it further.’”
The interview panel appreciated her honesty. It is always better to be honest than to give a wrong answer. Mock interviews also helped her improve her body language and speaking style. They gave her the confidence she needed for the final day.
