How Shobhita’s RBI Grade B Dream Started
When Shobhita was in college, she was studying to be an engineer. Like many of us, she used to read the newspaper. She often saw big news about the RBI and heard names like Raghuram Rajan. It all sounded so important, but she couldn’t understand much of it.
Instead of ignoring it, Shobhita became very curious. She wanted to know what RBI does. Luckily, some of her seniors told her about a special job called the RBI Grade B Officer. They said the work was very good, and you get to help the country.
This little spark of curiosity was the start of her big dream. She went home and told her father, “I want to try for this exam,” and he happily said yes!
But a dream is just the first step. The real journey was about to begin.

RBI Grade B 1st Attempt: Her Early Lessons
In 2019, Shobhita sat for the RBI exam for the very 1st time. She was hopeful, but things didn’t go as planned. She couldn’t clear the exam. She found that the General Awareness (GA) section was tricky, and she was a little short on marks there.
It’s okay to feel a bit down when things don’t work out. Isn’t it? But Shobhita did something very smart. Instead of just feeling sad, she asked herself, “Why did this happen?” She realized she needed to prepare for the GA section much, much better.
This is a small but very important lesson. Every time we stumble, we learn something new about the path.
Shobhita now knew one weak spot. But her journey was about to teach her another big lesson.

RBI Grade B 2nd Attempt: A New Challenge in Quant
Shobhita prepared again, this time focusing a lot on General Awareness. She felt much more confident. But the exam had a surprise for her! In her second attempt in 2021, the Quantitative Aptitude (Maths) paper was very, very tough.
She got enough marks to pass overall, but she couldn’t clear the minimum marks needed for just the Maths section.
This taught her the most important rule of these exams: you cannot ignore any subject. Every single one is a hero.
“One must realize that the RBI Grade B exam is not bigger than you.”
Now she had learned two big lessons. Let’s see how she used them to finally achieve her dream.

RBI Grade B 3rd Attempt: How She Finally Cleared It
For her 3rd attempt in 2022, Shobhita was fully prepared. She knew her weak spots, GA and Quant, and had worked hard on them. But guess what? The Quant paper was tough again!
This time, however, Shobhita was different. She did not panic. She remembered her last mistake. With only a few minutes left, she had solved only one or two questions. But instead of getting scared, she told herself, “I can do this.” She quickly looked through the whole paper to find the easiest questions first. Like a treasure hunt!
By staying calm and being smart, she was able to solve just enough questions to clear the section. This time, she cleared everything. She had finally done it!
Her past mistakes had become her teachers.
So, how did she study to become so smart and calm? Let’s look at her simple study plan.

Shobhita’s RBI Grade B Study Strategy
Here are the simple, practical things she did.
Integrated Preparation for RBI Grade B Phase 1 and Phase 2
She says, don’t study for Phase 1 and Phase 2 separately. The time between the two exams is very short. So, if you study for both together from the start, you will only need to revise after Phase 1. This saves you from a lot of last-minute worry.
How She Improved Typing Speed for RBI Descriptive Papers
Once, in another exam (SEBI), Shobhita knew the answers but couldn’t type them fast enough. The sound of everyone else typing fast made her nervous. She learned a lesson: knowing the answer is not enough, you must also be able to write it well. So, she bought a keyboard and practiced typing every day until it felt natural.
Shobhita’s RBI Grade B Booklist and Sources
Shobhita did not run after hundreds of books. She chose a few good sources and stuck to them. For Finance and Management, she completely trusted EduTap.
“I followed EduTap’s ESI and FM study materials and relied on their insightful current affairs video sessions with Gurkirat Sir, Kritika Ma’am, and Deeksha Ma’am.”
She also used AffairsCloud and EduTap’s magazines for current affairs. Her main advice?
“Limit your sources, but revise them again and again.”
Clearing the written exam was a big step. But there was one final conversation waiting for her.

Inside Shobhita’s RBI Grade B Interview Experience
Shobhita says her interview was less like an exam and more like a friendly chat. The interviewers wanted to know who she was as a person. They asked about her hobbies, like reading books and poetry. One panel member even recited a poem with her! It shows they want to see the real you.
One funny thing happened. They asked her about two statues at the RBI building. Years ago, just out of curiosity, Shobhita had Googled it! She knew the answer: Yaksha and Yakshini. Sometimes, our curiosity helps us in surprising ways.
Her main tip for the interview is to read your application form very carefully. Everything you write about yourself, your hobbies, your college, can become a question. Be honest and be yourself.
But through all these ups and downs, what was the one thing that kept her going?

Family Support and Her Strong “Why” for RBI Grade B
Shobhita says she could do all of this because of her family. When she felt low, they were always there to lift her up. They believed in her even when she started to doubt herself.
“The success is not for one person, it’s a team effort.”
Do you sometimes feel self-doubt, too? It’s a very common feeling. During these times, Shobhita says two things help:
- Your family and friends, who are like your personal cheerleaders.
- A strong reason “why” you want to do this. You must be very clear about your dream. This “why” will be your light on dark days.
Finally, here are some simple and loving words of advice from your senior, Shobhita.
