RBI Grade B Success Journey: A Girl Named After a Tennis Star

Here’s a little secret about Shami’s name and her family.

Shami’s father was a big fan of a famous tennis player, Monica Seles. In 1996, when Monica Seles made a great comeback and won a big match, Shami was born. Her dad was so happy that he named her Shami Seles! This little story tells you how much her family loved and supported her dreams from the very beginning.

Her family was her biggest strength. Even when years passed, they never let her feel down.

“My parents were the ones who were actually happy because after seven or eight years it finally paid off somewhere.”

They protected her from all the questions from relatives and always stood by her.

But even with so much love, the journey was not easy. The real struggle was inside her heart.

RBI Grade B Preparation Struggles: The Long Wait and Quiet Sadness

Imagine studying for 7 years. Shami gave 6 UPSC attempts. She wrote Mains 4 times and even reached the interview stage twice. Every time, she was just a few marks away.

She saw her friends getting jobs, going to other countries, or becoming IAS and IPS officers. At that time, she felt very down and sometimes even thought of giving up

The pressure was not from her family, but from inside. She would ask herself, “Why is this not happening for me?” It was a lonely and confusing time.

But this is where Shami’s real strength came out. She found a new way to think.

How Shami Changed Her Mindset for RBI Grade B Preparation

Here’s how Shami taught her mind to be her best friend.

Instead of worrying about the whole year, she started focusing on just one day.

Her simple rule was:

“…you just take each day at a time… today if you are feeling down, then don’t study, just sit down and watch TV, tomorrow will be a better day.”

Isn’t that a simple and kind thing to tell yourself? You don’t have to be a superhero every day. If you feel tired, it’s okay to rest. Watch some TV, watch sports like she did (she loves tennis and football!), or just relax. Your mind needs rest too.

Now, here’s something very surprising that Shami did.

We all hear that we should leave social media during preparation. But Shami did the opposite! She stayed on Instagram. But she used it smartly.

“Instagram has the World Economic Forum’s page, there is a World Bank page… You can pick up examples and case studies and load them in your answers.”

So, while having fun, she was also learning new things for her ESI and Management answers! She turned distraction into her strength.

Now, let’s see how she prepared for the big RBI exam with very little time.

Smart Study Plan for RBI Grade B When Time is Less

When Shami decided to write the RBI Grade B exam, she was already working in a job. She had very, very little time. She couldn’t study for hours. So, she had to be very clever.

RBI Grade B Phase 1 Strategy: Cracking Cutoffs with Simple Tricks

Here is her simple trick for Phase 1 subjects.

  • For Quant & Reasoning: She knew she couldn’t solve everything. So, her plan was to find 7-8 easy questions and solve them with 100% accuracy. She would spend the first few minutes just finding these easy questions. This way, she cleared the cutoff without pressure.
  • For General Awareness (GA): Her habit of reading newspapers for years helped her a lot. She didn’t study many new things. Her old knowledge from UPSC preparation was her treasure. This shows that what you learn today will help you tomorrow.
  • For English: She was comfortable with it, so she just practiced a little.

The lesson here is to know your strengths and weaknesses. Focus on what you can do best.

RBI Grade B Phase 2 Strategy: Managing ESI, Finance, and Management

For Phase 2, she had almost no time. She used her UPSC knowledge for ESI and Management. But Finance was a big zero for her. She was really worried.

She tried to watch EduTap’s course videos, but there were too many.

What did she do just 2-3 days before the exam?

She smartly watched only the YouTube Marathon videos and Kritika Ma’am’s Finance 360 series. She watched them at 2x speed, again and again. She was trying to learn as much as she could in a very short time.

But in the exam hall, something happened. She saw the Finance descriptive question and felt she couldn’t write a good answer. So, she took a brave decision. She left that one question completely! Instead, she spent all her time making her Management answers extra special.

It was a big risk, but it worked! Her good marks in ESI and Management saved her.

After the written exam, the final step was the interview. Let’s see how she faced it.

RBI Grade B Interview Preparation: Staying Calm Under Pressure

Shami says an interview is not just about knowledge, but also about your personality. How you sit, how you talk, and how calm you are, these things matter a lot.

Before her real interview, she gave a mock interview at EduTap. She says it helped her understand what kind of questions could be asked. It prepared her for the real day.

During her real interview, the panel asked her a question she didn’t know the answer to. Instead of guessing, she politely said, “Sir, I don’t know.” And that was perfectly fine!

“I think it’s quite ok to say I don’t know in an interview because ultimately it’s about how calm composed you are.”

Finally, let’s talk about the most important thing in this long journey: her friends.

The Role of Friends in Shami’s RBI Grade B Success

Through all these years, her friends were her biggest support system. It was a friend who told her to prepare seriously for the RBI Grade B. It was another friend who gave her the strategy for Phase 1, just a day before the exam!

They never saw her as competition. They genuinely wanted her to succeed. When her result came, they were the first ones to call and celebrate.

Shami’s most important message to you is:

“Choose your friends wisely, sir… your parents may not be able to understand every day’s pain that you go through, but your fellow aspirant will.”

Find friends who lift you up, who you can share your worries with, and who celebrate your happiness. This journey is much easier when you have good people walking with you.
