Beginning of a Journey With Many Turns
Sudhir is from Delhi. He did his B.Tech. in Computer Engineering. Like many of us, he wasn’t sure what to do after college.
He got a job as a clerk in SBI. But soon, he felt very bored. He said it was just filling Excel sheets all day. He liked banking, but he didn’t like the work he was doing.
He wanted to be at the top in the banking sector. So, he left his job to prepare for exams like RBI and SEBI. During this time, he also got a job as a computer teacher in a Delhi government school. This job gave him more time to study, which was a very smart move.
This shows us that it’s okay to change your path if you are not happy. Your journey doesn’t have to be a straight line!
But just wanting something isn’t enough, right? Sudhir faced some really tough times at the start.

Sudhir’s RBI Grade B Early Attempts & Struggles
Sudhir’s journey with RBI was full of surprises. His first attempt was just for fun! His brother was preparing for RBI, and Sudhir just gave the exam for practice. Surprisingly, he cleared Phase 1!
He only had 13 days for the Phase 2 exam and didn’t even know the syllabus. He took his brother’s notes and studied for 12-14 hours every single day. He missed clearing Phase 2 by just 1.5 marks!
This was not a sad moment for him. It was a moment of hope.
“Hey, this is possible! I can do this!”
In his 2nd attempt, he made a mistake. He didn’t read the reports and schemes in detail. He thought just reading the budget and survey was enough. But the exam was full of questions from reports. He couldn’t clear it.
From this, he learned a very important lesson: You cannot leave anything. Everything is important.
This lesson was about to change everything for him.

Overcoming Fear of Writing in RBI Grade B Descriptive Paper
For 2 years, Sudhir used to read, read, and read. He never practiced writing answers.
Why?
“I think now that it was out of fear… if you write and you don’t know it, then you get depressed.”
He was scared that if he tried to write and couldn’t, he would feel bad and lose hope. So, he would directly write in the main exam.
This was a big problem.
But this year, he changed. His friend, Aarti, pushed him. She told him, “You have to write answers. No excuses!” Sometimes, we all need a friend who tells us the hard truth, right?
So, he started practicing writing on a cheap keyboard, just like the one you get in exam centers. At first, it was very hard. He couldn’t even finish the paper on time. But slowly, with practice, he got better. This time, he attempted every single question in the final exam.
The biggest change for Sudhir was not what he studied, but how he faced his fear.
Now here’s where Sudhir really showed what smart preparation looks like.

Sudhir’s Smart RBI Grade B Preparation Strategy
Let’s break down his strategy for Phase 1 and Phase 2 in very simple steps.
Sudhir’s RBI Grade B Phase 1 Strategy
Sudhir says that for Phase 1, there is nothing more important than mock tests. He gave so many mocks! He also did something very smart.
He filled the form for every banking exam he could, SBI PO, IBPS PO, SEBI, everything!
Why?
“It’s like playing practice matches before the World Cup.”
Giving so many real exams in the exam center taught him how to handle pressure.
He gave around 40-50 real exams! This made the real RBI exam feel less scary.
For different subjects, his plan was:
- Reasoning: He had a funny name for easy questions – “khudra questions” (like small change). He would first solve all the easy, single questions, like syllogisms and inequalities. He would leave the big puzzles for the end. This way, he made sure he cleared the sectional cut-off.
- General Awareness (GA): He didn’t like reading PDFs. So, he watched monthly videos from a YouTube channel called Percham Classes. He would watch them at 2.5x or 3x speed, two or three times. This helped him remember better. He prepared for 4-5 months of GA.
- Quant & English: He says Quant was tough even for an engineer! But his English was good from childhood because he loved reading books.
But Phase 1 was just the beginning. Let’s see how he planned for the main exam.
Sudhir’s RBI Grade B Phase 2 Strategy
Sudhir’s plan for Phase 2 was all about being organized and smart.
- Finance & Management (FM): He used the same notes for all 3 years. He did not change his source. Revised 9 to 10 times! This is the secret. He also had a cool trick: he would print 4 pages on a single sheet of paper. This made the big bundle of notes look small and less scary.
- ESI (Economics & Social Issues): Here, he did something very different. He did not read ESI static at all! He saw from past papers that all questions were from current affairs, reports, and schemes. So, he put all his energy there. He made topic-wise folders for Health, Education, Banking, etc., and wrote down important points in them. This made revision super easy.
- Descriptive English: He struggled with this, getting exactly 49 marks two times in a row! This time, he focused on understanding the format properly, especially for Precis writing. He practiced to make sure he did better.

Sudhir’s RBI Grade B Interview Experience
Imagine this: it was the 31 of December, the last day of the year. Sudhir was the very last person to be interviewed. He had been waiting at the center since 9 AM, and his turn came at 3:30 PM. He was sitting all alone in a big hall, feeling very nervous.
The interview panel was also tired. They grilled him a lot. They asked him about his strange career path: Engineer, then SBI clerk, then a teacher, and now RBI. They asked him a very tough math question on the spot, which he couldn’t solve.
He came out of the interview feeling very worried. He called his brother and said they grilled me a lot.
But before this real interview, he had given a mock interview at EduTap. He says that the session was a “good wake-up call.” It showed him that he wasn’t prepared and pushed him to make a list of all the topics he needed to cover. This helped him face the real interview with more knowledge, even though it was tough.
This teaches us that even if an interview feels bad, you should not lose hope. You never know what the final result will be!
Through all these ups and downs, Sudhir was never alone.

Family and Friends Support in Sudhir’s RBI Grade B Journey
Sudhir’s story shows us how important it is to have good people around you. In his first attempt, he used his brother’s notes to study. His family was always there for him.
But the biggest support came from his friend, Aarti. When Sudhir was too scared to practice writing, she was the one who held him accountable. She would check on him and make sure he was writing his answers.
Having a study partner or a good friend can make a huge difference. They can push you when you feel like giving up.
And when the final result came, who was the first person he called? It was Aarti. He wanted to thank her for everything. After that, he called his family and celebrated with them. His father was so happy that he called 150 people to share the good news!
These are the moments that make all the hard work worth it.
So, after this long journey, what is Sudhir’s final message for you?

Sudhir Kumar’s Advice & Action Plan For You
If you are feeling lost or stuck, Sudhir wants you to remember a few things. This is not just advice; this is what he truly learned from his three-year journey.
- Don’t Put All Your Eggs in One Basket: It’s great to have a dream like RBI, but don’t stop giving other exams. Think of them as practice matches. They will teach you how to handle real exam pressure.
- Find Your “Khudra Questions”: In every subject, there are easy parts and hard parts. Always do the easy parts first. This builds confidence and makes sure you clear cut-offs.
- Revise, Revise, Revise: Sudhir revised his FM notes 10 times! Knowledge is not useful if you can’t remember it in the exam hall. Find one good source and stick to it.
- Face Your Fears: If you are scared of something (like writing answers), that is exactly what you need to practice the most. Don’t run away from it.
- Find a Friend Like Aarti: Find someone who can be your study partner, who can push you and keep you honest. The journey becomes easier when you are not alone.
Sudhir’s story is a beautiful reminder that the path to success is not always straight. There will be turns, waits, and moments of doubt.
Your tough time is just a phase. It will pass. Keep working hard, keep believing, and one day, you will also be sharing your success story. We at EduTap are always here to help you on this beautiful journey. All the best!
