IBPS RRB Clerk Eligibility: Age Limit & Relaxation
As per the RRB Clerk notification , the RRB Clerk age limit is for General candidates is:
- Minimum Age Limit: 18 years
- Maximum Age Limit: 28 years
For other categories, there is an age relaxation, which is detailed in the table below:

* For example, if you served for 5 years, you will get 5 + 3 = 8 years of age relaxation. However, even after adding this relaxation to your age, your total age must not exceed 50 years.
Age relaxation for SC/ST/OBC can be combined only with one additional relaxation category (PwBD/Ex-Servicemen/Widows). Both cannot be applied together beyond this limit.


Can Candidates from Other States Apply?
Yes. You can apply from any state for IBPS RRB Clerk, but:
- You must know the local language of the state they choose, or
- You must have studied the local language of that state up to Class 8 or higher.
- If they cannot read/write/speak it, they may be asked to appear for a Language Proficiency Test (LPT).
IBPS RRB Clerk Eligibility: Educational Qualification
A candidate must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline from a recognised university or equivalent.
- The qualification must be complete, and the result must be declared on or before the stipulated date in the RRB Clerk 2026 notification to be considered valid.
- Final year students are not eligible.
- Work experience is not required to meet the RRB Clerk Eligibility criteria.
- Computer knowledge is desirable, but not compulsory. Candidates with basic computer skills hold an advantage in work handling and daily operations.
Are Distance-Learning or Open-University Graduates Accepted?
Yes. Graduates with distance-learning or open-university degrees are also eligible, as long as the degree is from a recognized university.

IBPS RRB Clerk Eligibility: Nationality / Citizenship Requirements
A candidate must fall under any one of the following approved citizenship categories to be eligible for the IBPS RRB Clerk post:
- Indian citizen
- Subject of Nepal
- Subject of Bhutan
- Tibetan refugee who entered India before 1 January 1962 with the intention of permanent settlement
- Person of Indian Origin (PIO) who migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, or Vietnam with the intention of residing permanently in India.
When will the RRB Clerk Eligibility be Verified?
Eligibility is not verified during form submission.
- All documents are checked later during the interview/document-verification stage.
- If certificates do not match the eligibility norms, the candidature can be cancelled even after clearing mains.
Number of Attempts for RRB Clerk Eligibility
There is no attempt limit for IBPS RRB Clerk.
As long as you satisfy the RRB Clerk age limit, you can apply every year.
Credit Score Requirement under RRB Clerk Eligibility
- Candidate must maintain a good CIBIL/credit history at the time of joining the allotted RRB.
- Minimum acceptable credit score varies as per individual RRB policy.
- If the credit report shows loan defaults or overdue accounts, the candidate must:
- Update credit status before joining, or
- Obtain a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the lender confirming no outstanding dues.
- Offer of appointment may be cancelled if negative credit issues remain unresolved. Final discretion lies with the bank.
- Candidates with no banking or credit history are not affected by this clause.
- This requirement applies at the time of joining, not during application submission. It is not a precondition to apply for the RRB Clerk.
