Can SBI PO 2026 Recruitment Get Cancelled?
It is highly unlikely that SBI will cancel the SBI PO recruitment for 2026. SBI has conducted this exam every year for at least the past 20 years, even during tough times like the pandemic. So, unless there is a major policy change, I assume the recruitment will go ahead as expected.
How Many Vacancies Can You Expect in SBI PO 2026 Notification?
The number of vacancies for SBI PO has ranged between 600 to 2100 over the past 5 years. We expect around 500 to 1000 vacancies in the SBI PO 2026 recruitment notification.
This expected decrease in vacancies could be due to several factors. Although there has been no official statement from SBI about why the vacancies were lower in 2024-25. However, based on my research, here are some possible reasons:
- Increased internal promotions: Many clerks were promoted to the PO position internally, reducing the need for fresh PO recruitment.
- Lateral hiring for experienced bankers: SBI is recruiting more experienced bankers through lateral entry instead of fresh graduates, which has impacted the PO vacancy count.
- More recruitment of CBOs: SBI has increased hiring for Circle Based Officers (CBOs), indicating a shift in its hiring strategy.
- Increase in Specialist Officer (SO) hiring: SBI has been hiring more Specialist Officers (SO) for specific job roles.
- Large SBI Clerk recruitment: With 14,191 clerk vacancies in 2025 notification, SBI seems to be focusing on hiring freshers at the clerk level and later promoting them to PO positions.
That’s why I am safely predicting that the number of SBI PO 2026 vacancies will be between 500 and 1000. We will know the exact number of SBI PO 2026 vacancies only when the official notification is released.
Can there be Changes in the SBI PO 2026 Pattern?
Major changes were introduced in the 2025 exam as per the official SBI PO 2025 advertisement.
- The number of questions in the English Language section of Prelims increased from 30 to 40.
- The number of questions in the Quantitative Aptitude section of Prelims was decreased from 35 to 30.
- The number of questions in the Reasoning Ability section of Prelims was decreased from 35 to 30.
- The Descriptive Test section in Mains introduced new writing tasks, including Emails, Reports, and Situation Analysis, whereas earlier, it only included Essay and Letter writing.
- The number of questions in the General Awareness section of Mains increased from 50 to 60.
Can SBI introduce more changes in the 2026 notification?
With major changes introduced in 2025, I don’t expect further changes to the SBI PO 2026 Prelims, Mains, Psychometric Test, and Interview pattern.
However, the official exam pattern will only be confirmed once the SBI PO 2026 notification is released.

Can SBI PO 2026 Eligibility Criteria Change?
