A Bright Student with a Big Dream
Kritika was always a very good student. She studied B.Com from the famous Sriram College of Commerce (SRCC) in Delhi and was even the second-rank holder there! After that, she did her M.Com from the Delhi School of Economics. Being a good student is wonderful, but clearing government exams is a totally different ball game.
After her studies, she started working. First at SBI, then she cleared the LIC exam and worked there for a year. She was building her career, one step at a time. But in her heart, she was looking for something more, something different.
She even got selected as a PO in the Bank of India, but she made a very brave choice. She didn’t join. Why? Because she knew that the job would be very demanding and would leave her no time to prepare for her real dream: SEBI.
Finding Her True Calling in a Book
While she was studying for her M.Com, she came across a chapter all about SEBI. She knew about SEBI, of course, but she never knew that there was a job like a Grade A officer where she could work. Reading that chapter felt like a spark. Suddenly, everything became clear. It felt exciting!
“When I read about SEBI in my M.Com book, I just knew this is where I wanted to be. It felt like the perfect place for my skills and passion.”
This dream stayed in her heart. In 2020, while she was working at EPFO, the SEBI notification came out. It was her chance! She didn’t waste a single day. She decided to prepare for it, even with a full-time job. It was going to be hard, but her dream was bigger than her tiredness.
Now, let’s see how she turned this big dream into a real plan.

How a Working Student Made a Winning Plan
Being a working student is super tough. You feel tired after work, and your friends might be relaxing, but you have to open your books. Kritika felt this too. But she had a simple and smart plan.
Making Time When There is No Time
On weekdays, after a long day at the office, she could only manage about 2-3 hours for studying. It wasn’t much, but she was very consistent. But her real hard work showed on the weekends. On Saturdays and Sundays, she studied the entire day. It meant saying no to parties and outings, but she knew her goal was worth it.
“It required a lot of dedication. While others relaxed on weekends, my books were my best friends. But I knew why I was doing it.”
Her Smart Study Strategy for Phase 1
For Phase 1, Paper 1 (Maths, Reasoning, English, GA), she was already quite good because she had prepared for so many bank exams before. So, she didn’t spend months on it. Instead, she just practiced 10-15 mock tests online to stay sharp.
Her main focus was on Paper 2, which was about her Commerce subjects. Here’s what she did:
- Used Her College Books: She went back to her B.Com and M.Com books. Your own college notes can be your biggest strength!
- Made Her Own Notes: This is her biggest tip! She made short, simple notes for every topic. This helped her revise everything very quickly. When you write something down, you remember it better.
- Revise, Revise, Revise: She didn’t just read her notes once. She read them again and again, until the concepts were crystal clear in her mind.
With this solid plan, she cleared Phase 1. But the next stage was even more challenging.

Facing the Exam Hall: Phase 2 and the Interview
Kritika felt that Phase 2 was much harder than Phase 1. The questions were not direct. They were tricky and application-based. Some management questions had very confusing options. The numericals in Commerce were very long.
Here’s her simple trick to handle a tough paper:
- Read Everything First: She spent the first few minutes quickly going through all the questions.
- Do the Easy Ones First: She marked and answered all the questions she was 100% sure about. This built her confidence.
- Save the Hard Part for Last: She left the long numericals for the last 15 minutes. This way, she didn’t waste too much time on one difficult question.
This is a great tip for you too! Don’t get stuck on a hard question at the beginning. Secure your marks with the easy ones first.
The Interview: Being Honest and Calm
The interview can be scary, but the panel was very friendly. They asked her about her education, her past jobs, and why she wanted to join SEBI. She also gave a mock interview before her real one, which helped her prepare.
But here’s the most important part. They asked her some questions she didn’t know the answer to. Instead of panicking or guessing, she was honest.
“I simply said that I was not aware of the answer, but I would definitely go back and read about it. It’s okay to not know everything.”
The interviewers don’t expect you to be a robot who knows everything. They want to see if you are honest, calm, and have a positive attitude to learn. And Kritika showed them just that. She scored a very good 10 out of 15 in her interview!
Her journey was her own, but she did have some help along the way.

A Little Help Can Make a Big Difference
While Kritika’s success is because of her own hard work, she also understood the value of getting the right guidance. Before her final interview, she took a mock interview with us at EduTap.
The mock interview gave her a real feel of the final day. It helped her understand what kind of questions might come and how to answer them calmly. The feedback she received helped her improve her weak spots. Sometimes, just having someone to guide you and tell you where you can do better makes all the difference. It’s like having a friendly senior show you the way.
Remember, it’s okay to ask for help. Seeking guidance is a sign of strength, not weakness.
Now, let’s hear Kritika’s final message for all of you.
A Message Straight from Kritika’s Heart
Kritika has a very simple and powerful message for every student who is dreaming of a government job.
“It doesn’t matter if you are from a non-commerce background or not from a famous college. What matters is your passion. You should truly want to join the organization. That passion will give you the motivation to work hard.”
For all the working aspirants out there, she has a special tip:
- Ask Yourself ‘Why?’: Know exactly why you want this job. Your ‘why’ will push you on days you feel like giving up.
- Plan Your Day: Make a simple schedule. Decide what to study and when to revise.
- Trust the Process: Follow the syllabus, manage your time, and believe in yourself. You can surely achieve your goal!
She believes that there is nothing in this world that we can’t achieve. We just need hard work, a good plan, and a little bit of motivation every day.
So, what can we, as students, learn from this beautiful journey?
