When Will UPSC ALC Registration Start?

Do I Need to Complete UPSC OTR Before Applying?

Yes. OTR (One Time Registration) is mandatory before you can apply for UPSC ALC.

OTR is UPSC’s centralised profile system. Once created, the same OTR ID can be used to apply for any UPSC recruitment exam in the future.

Steps to complete UPSC OTR:

  • Go to upsconline.nic.in/upsc/OTRP.
  • Click on New Registration.
  • Enter your name exactly as it appears on your Class X certificate.
  • Provide date of birth, gender, and parents’ names.

Enter your personal details, educational qualifications, category, and other required information. Cross-check every entry against your original documents before moving ahead.

SC, ST, PwBD, and women candidates of all categories are fully exempt from the fee.

The fee is non-refundable once paid. Even if you later decide not to appear, or if your application is rejected, the amount is not returned.

How to Pay the UPSC ALC Registration Fee?

Fee payment happens in Part II of the UPSC ALC application form.

Online payment options:

  • Net banking (SBI and other major banks)
  • Credit card (Visa, MasterCard, RuPay)
  • Debit card
  • UPI

Offline payment option:

  • SBI Challan: Generate the pay-in-slip during Part II, take it to any SBI branch, and pay cash on the next working day

After successful payment, save your transaction ID and payment confirmation immediately.

If payment fails but money gets deducted from your account, do not panic. Wait 2 to 3 working days. The amount usually reverses automatically. If it does not, contact UPSC directly with your transaction details.

Will My Application Progress Be Saved?

Yes. The UPSC online application system lets you save your progress and return later.

While filling Part I, you can save and exit. Your information stays saved when you log in again with your OTR credentials.

What If You Make a Mistake in the Application Form?

Once you submit the UPSC ALC application form, changes are generally not permitted.

UPSC does not typically offer a correction or edit window for recruitment posts like Assistant Labour Commissioner. However, UPSC has recently announced a 3-day correction window for certain upcoming exams. Whether this applies to the ALC exam will be confirmed in the official notification.

Do not assume a correction window will be available. Treat your application as final from the moment you submit it.

Best approach: Check every single detail at least three times before hitting Submit.

Can I Apply If I Do Not Meet All Eligibility Criteria?

No. Candidates who do not meet the prescribed eligibility conditions should not apply.

UPSC does not verify eligibility at the time of application submission. The portal does not block ineligible candidates from submitting the form. However, eligibility is checked at the shortlisting, interview, and document verification stages.

If you are found ineligible at any stage, your candidature will be cancelled, even after clearing the Recruitment Test.

Common Mistakes During UPSC ALC Registration

1. Creating Multiple OTR IDs

Each candidate is allowed only one OTR ID. If you create more than one, your application can be rejected. If you have forgotten your OTR credentials, use the Forgot Password option. Never create a new account.

2. Name Mismatch

Your name in the application must match your Class X certificate exactly. Even a minor spelling difference causes problems during document verification.

3. Wrong Category Selection

Selecting the wrong category affects your age relaxation and fee calculation. OBC candidates falling in the creamy layer must apply as General. Verify your category certificate and its validity before selecting.

4. Photo or Signature Not Meeting Specifications

If the file size, format, or dimensions are off, your application may be flagged or rejected outright. Scan your photo and signature at the correct resolution before uploading.

5. Applying on the Last Day

Website traffic peaks on the last day of application. Payment failures, login timeouts, and server errors are very common. Apply at least 3 to 4 days early.

6. Not Saving the Confirmation Copy

Once you submit, download the application form copy immediately. You will need it at every subsequent stage: admit card download, interview, and document verification.

7. Paying Without Completing Part I

Fee payment happens in Part II only. Do not try to make the payment before completing Part I. Incomplete applications are rejected, and the fee is not refunded.

Under What Conditions Can Your UPSC ALC Application Be Rejected?

Your UPSC Assistant Labour Commissioner application form can be rejected if:

  • You do not meet the eligibility criteria (age, qualification, nationality)
  • You have created multiple OTR IDs
  • Your photo or signature does not meet the specifications
  • The application fee is unpaid, and you are not in an exempt category
  • Part I or Part II of the application is incomplete
