Will EO/AO & APFC Come Together in the Next UPSC EPFO Exam Cycle?
In the last 2 UPSC EPFO exam cycles:
- 2023: EO/AO and APFC were released under the same notification, but there were separate exams on the same day, i.e., 2 July 2023, in which candidates had the option to choose different exams for both posts.
- 2025: In 2025, both posts were advertised together, and the same exam was taken for both posts, which was held on 30 November 2025. The posts will be allotted based on the marks scored in the same paper.
So in the last two cycles, both posts came together.
Before 2023, APFC had long gaps and was conducted separately. But since 2023, EPFO has followed a combined recruitment pattern.
In 2025, there was a single exam for both the posts.
Now, EPFO has sent the requision to UPSC for the recruitment of the 311 EO/AO and 80 APFC vacancies. Hence, it is expected that:
- EO/AO and APFC will again be released under one UPSC EPFO notification.
- There will be a single written exam for both the posts.
What Has Been the Past 5 Year UPSC EPFO EO/AO and APFC Exam Date?
To understand the expected UPSC EPFO exam date, we must first look at the actual recruitment frequency of both EO/AO and APFC over the past 5 years.
| UPSC EPFO Past Year Exam Dates | ||
| Year | EO/AO Exam Date | APFC Exam Date |
| 2015 | – | 7-11 September |
| 2017 | 26 February | – |
| 2021 | 5 September | – |
| 2023 | 2 July | 2 July |
| 2025 | 30 November | 30 November |
In both 2023 and 2025, EO/AO and APFC were released under the same notification.
We are expecting that this pattern will continue and both EO/AO and APFC recruitment will again be done together in 2026.

How Long is the UPSC EPFO Recruitment Process?
The UPSC EPFO recruitment process is not short.
From notification to final joining, it usually takes 15-18 months to complete one full cycle.
Let’s understand this using the 2025 cycle.
- Notification was released on 29 July 2025.
- Written exam was held on 30 November 2025.
- Written result was declared in December 2025.
But the process does not end with the written result.
After that, candidates go through:
- DAF (Detailed Application Form) submission
- Document verification
- Interview/Personality Test
- Final result
- Appointment and joining formalities
The whole process sometimes takes more than a year after the Recruitment test result is announced.
If we look at previous cycles:
- The 2023 written exam was conducted in July, but the overall process extended well into 2024.
- The 2021 exam took the process into 2022 before final appointments were completed.
So even though the UPSC EPFO exam date for 2025 was November 2025, the entire recruitment cycle will realistically continue through much of 2026.
