How Is the Final Merit List Prepared?
This is where selecting “EO/AO”, “APFC”, or “Both” in the application form matters.
If you selected EO/AO only: Interview call comes only for the EO/AO post. Only EO/AO merit list is prepared for you.
If you selected APFC only: Interview call comes only for the APFC post. Only APFC merit list is prepared for you.
If you selected Both: Interview calls come for both EO/AO and APFC separately. Two interviews are conducted. Two merit lists are prepared.
If you clear both posts: UPSC checks eligibility for both. If eligible, the higher post APFC (Group A) is offered. EO/AO is Group B. Candidates who qualify for both are allocated APFC.
Merit calculation:
Final score = RT marks + Interview marks = Out of 400.
Separate merit lists are made for EO/AO and APFC. Allocation is done based on rank and category within each list.
Is There a Minimum Cutoff for the RT or Interview?
No official minimum cutoff is published for the RT. Candidates are shortlisted for an interview based on a calling ratio. UPSC calls a fixed number of vacancies. The cutoff is effectively the score of the last-called candidate.
This varies by cycle based on the number of applicants and vacancies.

What Type of Questions are Asked in UPSC EPFO?
All questions are 4-option MCQs. No descriptive or written component in the RT.

- Direct factual: Tests specific provisions, thresholds, definitions from Acts. “Under which Act is X defined?” or “What is the penalty under Y Act?”
- Statement-based: Multiple statements about a provision. “Which of the following is/are correct?” These have increased in frequency since 2021.
- Conceptual: Economic concepts, IR theories, accounting principles.
- Calculation-based: Quantitative Aptitude and Accounting. Limited but present.
No case study questions. The exam is more factual than conceptual overall.
Statement-based questions are common.They appeared heavily in 2023 and 2025 in Labour Laws and Social Security sections.
What are the Exam Day Rules for UPSC EPFO?

Reporting Time
