From a Village Dream to a Real Officer’s Chair

Nikhil comes from a rural background, a small village. You know how in villages, people lovingly tease you when you study well? They would tell him, “Tu bada DC lag raha hai” (You look like a big officer).

This small line planted a big dream in his heart. He saw his father helping people and always being around them. Nikhil wanted to do the same, help society, and also make a good life for himself. A government officer’s job felt like the perfect way to do both.

But the journey from that small village dream to the actual officer’s chair was very, very long.

And now, let’s see the difficult parts of his journey, where many of us feel like giving up.

The Long Wait: 8 Years and 9 Mains Exams

Nikhil gave 2 UPSC Mains, 4 HCS Mains, and 3 UPPSC Mains. That’s a total of 9 mains exams! He was reaching the last stage again and again, but the final selection was not happening.

He felt so tired that he thought, “Bas, ab ho gaya” (That’s it, I’m done). He even joined a school as a French tutor just to start something new, to feel like his life was moving. He just wanted a fresh start, anywhere. He was losing hope in himself.

But sometimes, just when you think it’s the end, a new door opens.

A Small Win, A Big Change in Mind

While feeling low, he cleared the Haryana Patwari exam. For some, it might seem like a small job after dreaming of UPSC, but for Nikhil, it was a ray of sunshine.

That one selection gave him a very important thing: CONFIDENCE

He finally had a job. The feeling of being “unemployed” was gone. This small win made him feel powerful again.

Just after he joined as a Patwari, the EPFO interview dates came. This time, Nikhil was not scared. He had a job, and this new confidence helped him feel relaxed. He thought, “If I don’t get this, I already have something.” This relaxed mindset makes a huge difference. Sometimes, one small success can prepare you for a much bigger one.

Now that his heart was in a better place, let’s see how he prepared his mind for the exam.

How Nikhil Studied Smartly for EPFO

The EPFO exam has different subjects like Social Security and Accounting, which were new for Nikhil. He was worried about how to cover so much new content. But he did something very smart. He decided to trust one source and stick to it. He chose EduTap’s course.

“EduTap’s content is really good… there is no need to do anything beyond it.”

Here are the simple steps he followed:

  • One Source is Enough: He said there is a saying, “A person in two boats will sink.” So, he just followed EduTap’s notes and didn’t run here and there for material.
  • Read, Don’t Just Watch: Nikhil felt that watching videos was not his style. He preferred to download the notes, print them out, and read them. This teaches us that you should find your own comfortable style of studying.
  • Make Short Notes: From the detailed notes, he made his own even shorter notes. This helped him revise everything very quickly in the end.
  • Practice Quizzes Again and Again: He solved the quizzes provided with each lecture many times. This made the facts stick in his mind.

With a good study plan, he was ready for the exam and the interview. But the interview was a big challenge for his confidence.

Let’s see how he faced the final step: the interview.

Finding His Voice Again: The Interview Experience

After so many setbacks, Nikhil’s confidence was very low. He was scared to even speak properly. He felt his English was not good enough. But then he joined EduTap’s Interview Guidance Program, and things changed completely.

In the mock interview, a retired IAS officer started speaking to him in English. Nikhil was nervous, but he replied in English too. After the interview, he asked the sir, “Is my English okay?” The sir replied, “Yes, it’s perfectly fine.”

This one sentence was like magic for Nikhil. His lost confidence came back.

“The main thing to go into an interview is confidence. I got that confidence boost from EduTap’s interview program… it was very low, but the program pulled it up.”

The panel taught him to stay calm, be real, and not fake anything in the DAF (Detailed Application Form). They told him to just be himself. And that’s what he did in the final UPSC interview. He was relaxed, honest, and confident. The interview felt like a friendly chat, not a scary test.

But he was not alone in this journey. He had a very strong team behind him.

The Real Heroes: Family and Friends Who Never Gave Up

Nikhil says the biggest reason for his success is his family and friends. When he doubted himself, they believed in him.

His brother, Aman, was with him throughout the preparation. His father always said, “You just study, we are here to take care of everything.” His friends, who have been with him since college, never left his side. He says, There are times when you want a person who can believe in you even if you don’t.”

This is the biggest lesson. Your preparation is not just yours; your family prepares with you. They feel your sadness and your happiness. Never forget to thank them.

And when things got too stressful, Nikhil had his own secret way to feel better.

Simple Tips from Nikhil to Stay Happy and Focused

Every student feels stressed. It’s normal. But how you handle it is what matters. Here’s what Nikhil did:

  • Run It Out: Whenever Nikhil felt stressed or couldn’t sleep, he would go for a long run. He says running calms his mind. What is your stress buster? Is it music, talking to a friend, or maybe drawing? Find that one thing that makes you feel peaceful.
  • Write It Down: He believes in writing everything down. Your plans, your thoughts, your feelings. When you write a plan, you make a promise to yourself. And we always try to keep promises made to ourselves, right?
  • Be Happy Today: Don’t wait for success to be happy. He says, “If you are happy today, you will be happy tomorrow.” Enjoy the process of studying. If you study with a sad heart, the learning will not be good. So, stay chill!

Nikhil’s story is not just about clearing an exam. It’s about not giving up on yourself. It’s about the power of family, the magic of self-belief, and the importance of staying happy on the journey.

We at EduTap are so proud of Nikhil and we hope his journey gives you the strength to continue yours. Remember, we have got your back!
